Florence Gosset: art at the surface of the skin.

At ARTIST, we are committed to highlighting artists who live, feel, and create with the same rigor that drives us in our collections.

Today, we focus on FLORENCE GOSSET whose organic work resonates powerfully with our vision of sincere, grounded, and free beauty.

Explorer of natural forms, the visual artist is rooted in material. Her playground: the roots carried by the river at the foot of her studio, the trees, the southern winds, the forgotten textures. These raw elements become, under her fingers, installations that speak to the body, as vibrant as they are poetic. She often invents and elaborates in situ, in connection with architecture or landscape. I maintain an unwavering joy in painting… A way to stay attuned to the living” she says.

And this is felt in each of her immersive works suspended between sky and earth.

For the exhibition “The Song of the Depths » In Vaison-la-Romaine in May 2025, she hung immense formats in tissue paper in the nave of a medieval church, inspired by elements of nature found and collected in the Ouvèze after the floods. These tangled masses of trunks, branches, roots; these wrecks, seemingly inextricable, hold invaluable treasures. Drawn from this labyrinth, her ballet of expressive structures, light as if in weightlessness, recalls the swaying of seaweeds or corals.

She notably works with tissue paper, which she prints, dyes, folds, or suspends, playing with light and transparency. Her practice is both graphic and tactile, demanding and intuitive, nourished by a sensitive observation of the original world.

In this context, a true alloy has emerged between her sensitivity and ours to bring the collection “AT THE EDGE OF THE SKIN” to life, with the next session presented from July 18 to 27.

Florence Gosset seeks to plastically translate the invisible – the currents, the forces, the deep memories. Through flexible and moving structures, she questions the trace, the void, the balance. Each painting is an attempt to capture what escapes, what trembles, what still breathes in absence.

She explores the themes of transformation, movement, and organic memory, shaping installations where the balance between the fragility of the support and the strength of the gesture interacts with the space.

Through events like “Other City » Since 2019, she invites other artists to integrate into the landscape, to exhibit in the streets, shop windows, and living spaces. A way to anchor art in everyday life, just as we do ourselves in our clothing. Pieces to live with, to wear, to pass on.

President and co-founder of the Artémis collective, she also works to promote contemporary art in rural and urban areas.

She designs and organizes collective exhibitions, participatory workshops, and cultural events that bring together artists, audiences, and territories.

She can regularly be found in media libraries, galleries, churches, or unusual places.

Florence Gosset, born in 1956, is a French visual artist based in Mollans-sur-Ouvèze, in the Drôme Provençale. A graduate in applied arts, she taught for several years before fully dedicating herself to her artistic practice. Her journey combines drawing, painting, monotype, installation, and work on paper.
