Trends set the tone. ARTIST keeps its own.

,

La tendance donne le ton. ARTIST garde le sien.

Every season, the verdict seems to be in: it will be ice blue, butter yellow, sage green, or chocolate brown. Fashion announces it, interior design follows suit, magazines relay the information, and a few months later, the colour is everywhere.

But who decided?

Pantone? Trend bureaux? Stylists? Manufacturers? Brands? You?

The answer is less simple - and ultimately much more interesting.

Long before they reach your wardrobes, colours, materials, shapes, and textures are observed, anticipated, and analysed. Trend bureaux sometimes work two years ahead, studying fashion, but also art, design, interior decoration, behaviours, technological innovations, and social or cultural changes.

So they do not really decide what you will like tomorrow. They try to anticipate it.

And the distinction is significant. Trends no longer come from on high

A trend is more likely to emerge from a convergence. Trend bureaux observe. Spinners develop their colour ranges. Weavers develop materials. Printers look for new combinations. Trade shows bring proposals face to face. Designers take them up. Collections interpret them. The media comment on them, and social media amplify them.

Then, one fine morning, you get the impression that the whole world has simultaneously discovered a passion for burgundy.

Yet no one really ordered it.

Your relationship with trends has changed too. Social media, vintage, second-hand, travel, independent designers, and the constant circulation of images have largely shattered the old diktats. Several worlds now coexist. A colour can return without ever having truly disappeared.

Trends remain, but more as an indicator of the zeitgeist than as an instruction.

Première Vision: tomorrow is already beginning

It is precisely this spirit of the moment that Brigitte and François will rediscover next week at Première Vision Paris.

How many seasons have they been walking through the halls? They have lost count.

Kilometres of fabrics, yarns, buttons, knits, jacquards, velvets, innovations, and sometimes curiosities that are completely unsuitable for ARTIST, but in front of which they still stop.

Because looking, touching, and understanding are part of the job.

And while you are barely thinking about next winter, Autumn-Winter 2027-2028 is already taking shape there.

Intuitions then meet reality: yarns, fabrics, knits, leathers, prints, and thousands of samples offered by manufacturers. An anticipated shade is confirmed, enriched, or sometimes shifted through contact with the material.

Because a trend is not merely predicted. It is built collectively.

At ARTIST, looking has never meant following.

ARTIST can neither work outside its time nor wants to.

Brigitte and François therefore study color ranges, discover new materials and textile innovations, reconnect with their suppliers, and meet others. They compare what they discover with their own intuitions.

But knowing about a trend never means having to adopt it.

At ARTIST, a collection can begin with a work, an artist, an encounter, a photograph, a landscape, a material, a color, or simply a story they want to tell.

This is the universe that trends then have to confront.

They look. They keep. They set aside. They reinterpret. They combine differently.

An announced shade may enter a collection because it engages in dialogue with the work that inspires it. Another, despite being ubiquitous, will remain outside because it has nothing to say there.

The same freedom applies to shapes and materials. The ARTIST wardrobe is built on fundamentals that are solid enough to transcend the seasons: comfort, freedom of movement, modularity, longevity. Then come the details that shift the perspective: an unexpected sleeve, a collar, a finish, a pattern, a texture.

Prints, for their part, tell the story. They are not there because a pattern would be “trendy,” but because they fully belong to the collection's universe.

So it is not because a trend exists that it has to enter ARTIST. But freeing themselves from it does not mean ignoring it.

Taking the pulse, then choosing

At Première Vision, Brigitte and François come to source materials, reconnect with their partners, discover other manufacturers, and support French or European expertise wherever possible.

They also come to take the pulse of their time.

Then they come home.

And that is when ARTIST's work begins: filtering all these influences to retain only what will serve the next story.

Because between the color announced as the color of the year and the one that naturally finds its place in a collection, there is an essential difference.

The former belongs to the trend.

The latter already belongs to ARTIST.
