The sky is constantly changing. So is the light. At Deirdre Campbell’s, colors never remain still. They call out to one another, grow accustomed to each other, disappear before reappearing elsewhere.
“I wanted to add a little of that changing light,” she confides.
At first glance, the deep reds evoke Burgundy, its vineyards, its generous soil, and the flowers lining the paths. Then the eye lingers. In touches, the greens, blues, and ochres in turn make themselves heard. Nearby, trees, hedges, and wild grasses crisscross its hillsides. All the discreet life accompanying the vines gradually comes into view.
Deirdre Campbell herself provides the key:
“The vine does not exist all by itself. It needs the roses, the surrounding woods, and the other plants that protect it.”
The painting then ceases to tell the story of the vineyard and begins to speak of nature’s strengths and fragilities. The rubies are no longer only those of the wine, but also those of the vegetation. The lines become stems, the golden glints suggest pollen, berries, or the invisible insects that contribute to this fragile balance in which every element finds its place.
This vision could only resonate with Brigitte and François’s.
They have always imagined their collections as wardrobes that live, evolve, and take shape over time. Their convergence with Deirdre Campbell’s universe is therefore no coincidence. It reveals a shared sensibility, the same way of observing nature, respecting its rhythm, and allowing colors to converse instead of constraining them.
Rather than creating a textile translation of it, they extended its breath.
The result is a wardrobe imagined as a journey through the vineyards surrounding these three creatives.
As in the painting, the eye never comes to rest. It moves from deep copper to weathered burgundy, from satin clarity to the enveloping softness of knitwear. Faced with the abundant motif, a micro houndstooth on a carmine background allows the whole to breathe. The silhouettes never seek to command attention on their own. They complement one another and carry the story forward.
A frock coat elongates the silhouette before protecting the print it reveals. Without ever sacrificing the comfort of its knit, a cropped jacket edged with velvet braid brings depth and structure. A cardigan, a sweater, and a few tops pick up the thread of the story with greater ease. The dress releases all its swaying movement in a single sweep, while the trousers provide a conciliatory link, just as the dark soil reveals the brilliance of the plants.
The prints move from one design to another without ever becoming tiresome. The faux-plain fabric gives them moments of silence. Layering lends depth to the whole, just as groves, shrubs, and tufts instinctively accompany the vine without ever stealing the spotlight.
Then come the details rarely noticed at first glance: a vermilion lining that illuminates the inside of the frock coat as it opens, a few red buttons encircled in gold that sparkle, highlighted pockets, and fine piping that connects the pieces like so many lifelines.
Everything naturally finds its place in this interpretation of Art-to-Wear, faithful to Deirdre Campbell’s spirit.
This freedom is undoubtedly what brings the painter and ARTIST’s co-founders closest together.
All three work through successive adjustments. They scrutinize, revisit their gestures, shift a color, alter a material, and sometimes remove more than they add. Nothing is ever fixed. Each creation retains a sense of movement, as though it continued to live once completed.
It then becomes clear that this collection is not merely seeking to dress a silhouette.
It invites us to cross the canvas, to step outside the frame. To free what is growing so it can continue to move.
This oil painting could be a declaration of love to Burgundy. In any case, it reminds us that nothing grows alone. Every element contributes to this discreet harmony from which beauty emerges.
Perhaps this is where Deirdre Campbell, Brigitte, and François truly meet.
Each in their own art and areas of expertise, they share the same faith in living things. They refuse to confine them. They prefer to follow their lead, allowing them to evolve until they patiently find their proper balance.
