Antoine PETEL sculpts summer for ARTIST

Between painting and sculpture, the works of Antoine PETEL today combine metal, ceramic and bright colors that echo the universe of ARTIST.

A visual painter and sculptor, he mixes his art with science, gives substance to a process and marks his work with its relationship to space, emptiness and color.

Introduced to biology, plant, animal or human morphologies reveal his interest in shapes, movement, living things.

The colorful metal rods intertwine, twist and dance in space. Like canvases or mobile, graphic or geometric frames that meet, cross, twist, separate.

Fold, curve, crimp, ornament: the sculpture of Antoine PETELstretches in space in multiple forms or combinations.

Seeds, leaves, or other organic-looking elements merge and intertwine in a circle. From the galactic constellation to plant elements, to the semblances of veinlets or globules of the human body, all these assemblages come to life. The poetic connection between painting and sculpture leads to different models of growth: the spiral, the spreading… The dialogue between matter and material speaks of mutation: branching, repetition, etc.

Almost every day in the workshop, he organizes himself based on drawings he makes in notebooks. He chooses a trail and the adventure begins. He first builds a metal structure which gives shape to the drawing and then deploys the ceramic pieces which will become the colored parts.

He uses a lot of tools from different worlds because he likes to invent original technical solutions in his productions. For example, to free his hands and gain precision in his welding operations, he tinkered with his spot welder to operate it by foot.

He remains attached to this major “instrument” in his favorite technique, welding, and thanks to which he quickly gives physical and formal existence to his ideas.

 

 

Those who were born through drawing, grew up through painting, and finally achieved fulfillment through sculpture.

Drawn from nature, from the forest, from all living forms, its perspectives come to fruition and inscribe color in space, color which in its configuration also reveals all the brilliance of the void.
