Jacky Robert or “a painting of Nimes”

18 months ago ARTIST spots a “toile de Nîmes” and thus titles the theme resulting clothing.

A child of Nîmes, Jacky Robert, lives and practices his painting not far from the sites where French denim saw the light of day at the end of the 16th century.

The artist imagines the collection - which he does not yet know, just like you! - bathed in the lights of the sea.

In his painting, he expresses the reliefs of the sea through different paint textures, the movements of the clouds through plays of transparency and areas of lightness. A graphic side reflects the separation between the sky so clear that it becomes white, opposed to the depth of the dark blue elements.

Part of the shore of inspiration, the brand has imagined outfits and variations in nuanced or gradient blues for an epic nautical journey. To recall the work of Jacky Robert from his series “Horizons, the plot and the color of the jeans stood out, full sail.

Self-taught until 2006, the painter then joined the Nîmes School of Fine Arts until 2015, taking drawing, oil and acrylic painting classes, with teachers and artists Véronique Fabre, Gérard Depralon and Steven Le Priol.

His numerous and varied influences include contemporaries such as Gerhard Richter, Mark Rothko, Cy Twombly, Pierre Alechinsky, Miquel Barcelo, Vincent Bioulès, Pierre Soulages, Lucian Freud, Philippe Cognée, Marc Desgrandchamps, Yan Pei-Ming, Peter Doig, for cite only them.

No pre-established path leads to his representations of flowers, portraits, nudes or nature. He handles the brush or pencil instinctively, through sensations. He favors the feeling of the moment, without calculation, in order to preserve the freshness that results from it.
At the limit of abstraction and figuration, his works astonish him, and he questions their content, their purpose. His moods at every moment, different every day, give life to his work and nourish it.

His artistic approach, above all emotional and intuitive, brings new experiences into unknown universes. The outcome of the preceding landscape influences and enriches the one that succeeds it, and so on, throughout its series.

Its pictorial expression naturally welcomes those who linger there and who, in turn, appropriate them, reinvent them, in the light of their own sensitivity. No doubt the wind that blew across the “Toile de Nîmes” to the studio ofARTIST!

At the workshop where Jacky Robert happily offers private tours, we admire his drawings and mainly an acrylic painting with which he combines various mediums: oil pastels, dry pastels, pigments, colored pencils, various leads. He transmits his art through courses organized around free expression.
