Digital printing

The ARTIST concept is closely linked to digital printing. Crazy about textiles, art and technology, François invented his Art à Porter in a stroke of genius associated with this revolutionary process in 1998.

For more than 20 years, the founding duo of the ARTIST brand have been using this technique, which they know almost as much as their French or Italian printers. All artists in their own way, often from grandfather to grandson, with ancestral know-how.

Most of the time, Brigitte translates her crush on a painting from drawings into files that she creates from scratch. Tests and sampling will result in the superb prints so distinctive of the artistic brand.

So how is this little miracle possible? How have developments enabled these feats until digital printing? What if we told you more?

Created by the Chinese during the Song dynasty (960-1279), screen printing is a process of pushing ink through a stencil onto fabric. Only one color can be applied at a time. Therefore, the number of colors is limited.

The principle of flatbed printing (process of'screen printing) therefore consists of spreading the color on its surface, letting it pass through the pierced parts corresponding to the design, thus transferring it to the fabric by coloring.

Frame after frame, the superposition of different colors constitutes the final pattern. Thanks to that reporting previously, we will repeat it over the entire surface of the fabric. This technique is well suited to complex and precise designs for ready-to-wear, luggage, high-end accessories, etc.…

Rotary printing, or “to the cylinder” refers to rotating frames which pass successively over the fabric; more appropriate large series of small ratio designs including up to 12 colors, and particularly used in swimwear, lingerie, ready-to-wear or furniture.

L’digital printing runs from inkjet printer. You will also hear “inkjet or digital”.

It is ideal for printing photos or patterns on fabrics, without limitation of ratio, composed of countless colors, gradients or effects, in very high definition. It allows great precision in details and settings, infinitely diverse possibilities.

Among the many technological advances made in recent years, digital printing is undoubtedly what we can call a r-evolution. An evolution of printing techniques and a revolution in the textile world. All international players have already anticipated and continue to invest to optimize processes and productivity integrating respect for the environment; innovate with new generation inks, raise quality… for impressive prints.
