Buttons or the importance of detail at ARTIST

A bit of history:

The button used for the purpose of maintaining clothing seems to appear in the 13th and XIVIt is centurys and Europe, especially to hold shirt sleeves.

It is under Louis XIV whose use is spreading in France, luxurious decoration of jewels or paintings treated in miniatures. Around 1850, it was created in porcelain.

Until the end of the 19th century, it remained an essentially masculine accessory reserved for the richest. In the locker room next door, women's clothes fit more easily with laces. The story of this little one aesthetic object is closely linked to that of fashion; the one that could be considered secondary subtly underlines the look of the garment. Far from being a detail, he scripts it!

At the house of Artist :

Personalizing your favorite models also means choosing the prettiest buttons, taking the greatest care down to the last touch! These customization stars do not leave you indifferent.

Fibulanomists collect them. We often love them, it’s not unusual for us to notice them anyway!

It must be said that there are an infinite number of surprising materials, covered with fabric or not, with a graphic, playful, XXL, futuristic, or even romantic look.... They have character, originality, expressiveness. We unearth rare pearls like marbles, like flowers, like nails... Pieces of art, tiny sculptures, they are exhibited in mother-of-pearl, in metal, in corozo (from the fruit of a palm tree or vegetable ivory), in natural materials such as wood…

Most of the time in a tribe, single file, they continue their pranks in acrylic, polyester, casein (milk protein), coconut, gum...

They not only catch your jacket but also catch the eye because they are decorated with enamels or encrusted with rhinestones. Bold, androgynous, contemporary, mixed...They perform their charming act on us.

In this article, Artist holds to salute its button suppliers, experts who understand how the brand works, where it wants go. In their workshops, the button is king. One is a French manufacturer, established in Hauts de France since 1873, holder of the “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” label.

The second has been manufacturing its treasured collections for over 55 years near Parma in Italy.

All the good taste, all the French and Italian tradition continues.

Brigitte and François select these little jewels as presented by their partners or ask for their own fantasy, in size, shape, specific color.

All production is carried out on site in each of these integrated factories, from the creation of molds to injection and engraving. Each step, from stamping to digital turning, cutting or laser marking, everything is shaped, polished, carefully controlled on each site.

These men and women all have gold in their hands. They are turners, injectors, enamellers, engravers, painters, skaters. Their flair is sharp, their technical expertise highly recognized, their experience is the fruit of several years of meticulous practice in the art of detail.

Stylists work on trends to release a collection of countless references twice a year. Flat buttons with holes in, tailed, The offer is diverse.

Like in Ali Baba's cave: we find tempered classics, pastels, a lively palette of varnishes or, in contrast, a dark dull color chart. But let’s make no mistake! All these textures, these innovative volumes, these soft touches prove that we are in artisanal and industrial territory; from connoisseurs capable of bluffing you with iridescent transparencies, earth colors, appearances of stone, horn, and so on.

The production teams design the tools and molds that will be used to manufacture. Regularly renewed, the cutting-edge equipment pushes upwards, serving innovation.

There is a whole range of different and complementary surface treatments available for these buttonmakers.

Items can be handcrafted, engraved, printed and much more... All with superior mastery and quality. If there is dyeing, it must have real resistance. A button must not lose its luster or color after being put in the machine or following ironing, for example.

By regulating supplies and processes, these two manufacturers guarantee monitoring, compliance, compliance with standards, and quality control after each operation. No coincidence.

Important to note: these two European companies are consolidating their environmental and social policy, are launching, among other things, tests to manufacture buttons without hydrocarbons. We like it!

Small piece of advice:

To sew a button, it is advisable to leave a space between the button and the fabric where it is sewn, to facilitate the insertion of the other piece of fabric when closing: to do this, we often use a matches placed under the button, which is sewn with and then removed, thus freeing the space of its thickness.
