Mini-Interview d'Anita PHILLIPS
10 short questions / 10 short answers asked to the artist Anita PHILLIPS who inspired the “RHAPSODY” collection for pre-orders from September 24 to October 3, 2021 at 8:00 p.m.:
- An inspiring place?
The Atlantic coast around Capbreton. I like to look for shells, sea glass and driftwood to incorporate into my multimedia mosaics.
- An artist you can’t get enough of?
Antoni Gaudi – I love his brave and creative style. Casa Batlló in Barcelona often inspires me in my work. The way of dressing the facade in broken ceramic tiles, the roof terrace with its dragon's back.
- Your last reading?
“Love in the Time of Cholera” – Gabriel Garcia Marquez
- How do you start a canvas?
The concept develops in my head for several weeks – looking for a 3-D armature like a fashion model or a musical instrument – something with a nice silhouette.
I think about materials and textures and I create a huge palette of broken necklaces, old screws, eggshells, old pens, paper clips, for example.
Then I dive in, but it's a slow process for me and it can take months to complete the project.
- When do you know it is finished?
I cover the 3-D piece completely and then several more times – I think, I take photos, I think again and suddenly the work tells me it’s finished!
- Your Proustian madeleine?
My cairn terrier dog Ozzy – I love the feeling of relaxing on the couch next to him.
- Does (clothing) fashion inspire you?
Of course I like fashion shows – the texture and movement of fabric inspire me.
8. Any idea to make it evolve?
More fashion that can be recycled and reused.
9. Your favorite piece of clothing? (jacket, dress, pants, scarf, etc.)
I love all kinds of scarves. I always have one with me.
