ORIGIN
Not only have we respected the origin of the frock coat with the very structured upper part and the lower part flared like a skirt, but we have reinforced the effect by creating two different prints for each part on a 95% cotton fabric and 5% elastane. Note that this coat is warm with wadding between the lining and the fabric.
INSPIRED
What could be more elegant than clothing inspired by uniforms or cavalry? This has always been one of our sources of inspiration. We love this rigor and structure which highlights the body in a very feminine way. A frock coat is between the dress and a feminine coat, fitted at the waist, with a flared skirt. It is originally a rider's clothing and moreover, the word comes from the English "riding coat" which means "coat for horse riding".
PIPING
We wanted to subtly highlight the junctions between the prints and to do so, we used red piping (fabric strip).
PRINTED AND PLAIN FAUX
The print on the upper part is a direct inspiration from the magnificent canvas by the artist ÉRIC ROUX-FONTAINE. For the bottom one, we wanted a false dark solid color and as the artist often does, we delicately created and superimposed a dark, slightly transparent layer on an underlayer of small, barely visible patterns.
SHOULDER
Small interior shoulder pads between the fabric, the light wadding and the lining give an effect (without exaggeration) of a very straight and impeccable shoulder.
COL
What could be more sober and elegant for this frock coat than a discreet straight collar (derived from the officer collar) surrounded by red piping.
RED AND GOLD BUTTONS
We chose 4-hole buttons in red with a gold thread, highlighting the sophisticated side of this piece.
BUTTONED CUFF
On the front side, a buttoned tab from top to bottom is made with the print of the lower part. This highlights the details and the print of the top even more when wearing the frock coat open, as is often the case.
CONTRASTING INJECTION
Wanting to structure and add a touch of color from the top print to the bottom one, we created inserts on the lower part by stitching them with red saddle stitch thread.
Cuff
Like the buttoned tab (from top to bottom), a reminder of the print of the lower part of the frock coat finishes the bottom of the sleeves in order to make an additional link between the two.
STRUCTURE DOS
A well-cut garment is often so because of the structure of the back. Significant cutting work was carried out on this piece.
POCKETS
Two pockets with flaps in the print on the upper part link with the print on the bottom.
WITH THE SHIRT
In combination with the white background of the shirt, and the orange-red of the lining, this silhouette is one of our favorites.
A complementary lining
As we often do, we wanted to choose a contrasting and cheerful lining. The complementary color of red is green, so we naturally chose an orange-red on a beautiful quality satin lining (68% acetate and 32% elite polyester).
REDINGOTE AND CARDIGAN
The print on the velvet of the cardigan blends under the frock coat.
FROCK COAT AND TROUSERS
The pants are made from the same fabric (95% cotton / 5% elastane) as the bottom print of the frock coat. We have matched the height of the waist of the latter to that of the pants so as to have a perfect fit when wearing, tucked into it, a top or a shirt and the coat-frock coat is open as on the attached photo.
WITH THE SCARF
In perfect combination with the frock coat.
WITH THE TOP
The print of the top (also blends into that of the frock coat). Note that it is entirely possible to also wear the sweater and the dress under the frock coat.
